patrick flannery, composer and pianist

as a composer, i write and share notated music that is deeply queer, connected to others through collaboration, and inspired by art and those who create it. my practice is centered around explorations of each performer's (and their instrument's) unique characteristics, improvisation and intuitive creation, and unique storytelling focused on promoting under-heard or unspoken perspectives. my music is slow-moving and slow-uncovering, emerging from distant trains of thought and flickering into understanding.

as a pianist, i perform and share programs of music for solo piano from the 21st century. my focus on contemporary repertoire is supported by close collaboration with composers, commissioning of new works for myself, and education for audiences both familiar and unfamiliar with concert music. my performances are often meditative, both in sound and in thematic material; i guide audiences in contemplating music reflecting on our current society. i commit to programming and supporting music from marginalized artists, and approaching performance of any musical work in a deeply queer manner.
